How to renew

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) or Social Security Administration (SSA) will contact you when it's time to renew your child’s benefits.

If your child gets Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the SSA will review his or her eligibility once every 1 to 6 years or when you report a change affecting eligibility or the benefit amount. They’ll review your income, resources, and your child’s living arrangements.

If your child doesn’t get SSI, HHSC will review his or her eligibility at least once every 12 months. HHSC will send you a renewal notice at least 60 days before you’ll need to renew.
